fodder

this gym is fodder, absolutely so. Even the members are telling me so. This morning I woke up to get some coffee, so I could get something done, and I was interrupted by...the sound system going out in the group fitness room. I was asked by a trainer to help, because I know sound systems or something. I know how to run THAT system if it's working correctly. and wouldn't you know it, it wasn't. There is two lights on it, one red and one green. The green light was off, and in case you've never been to a traffic light, it's not kosher.
I had to do the acceptance thing, it's something I cannot change. It's broken, what can I do...try to find a replacement of course. I have one in my office, it has 1/4 inch jacks. The amp that needs replacing, has split jacks in the back. SO unless we had the old jacks, we have no way of using mine. At least without soldering the old ones. I thought, why not call one of the trainers and get an ipod boombox. Then I realize, why isn't there an ipod boom box in there now? why is there amplification for a concert hall? it's a small room for about 8 people. It would be cheaper to sell the stuff and get an ipod boom box. I think they are keeping it because they don't want to take the loss? I mean they already bought the cd players, and the stuff, it works right?

New Drama

OK, Upstate NY was supposed to get a whopping storm today. Talking nasty all day. In the past two weeks, the gym decided to close. Sometimes it was all day, sometimes it was for a few hours. So naturally when it's snowing now, everyone calls the gym and says "are you open today?". I mean like all day. At first I wanted to close, I thought why would a place stay open for hardly anyone? I got a call from one owner, "we need to close, tell my Brother don't bother showing". I called the Brother, he would come in anyway. Ok so after I accepted it, I braced my self for it to be not very busy. It had some spurts, I signed some people up. We had some talks, I may help sell ad space for a great site that refers other people.
So two people call, one asking about babysitting, the other asking about a class. We put the woman in the book, I called the trainer. The trainer confirmed the appointment, and the babysitter called back to say she wasn't coming. This was strike two for the babysitter who didn't come in today, and has been screwing things up for a while, well maybe not purposely, her kid gets sick. Still not the member's fault. Then it was 5:30 and the class instructor didn't show, and the people being trained were told that he was coming but 15 minutes late. Oh maybe he could have told us?
SO The whole thing with the class is wacky. This gym is a Les Mills facility. The classes are patented, and the trainers need to be certified. Well, one of the popular trainers quit, and the slot has been "pending" for a month. I was even thinking about doing it. SO one member signs up, and we tell her he's coming, he does not. So now he's here and acts like nothing is wrong.

training

I don't remember a lot about the training, I do know it was quick. Two hours one day, two hours another day, then I was thrown in. It wasn't too bad, the only problem I had, was getting up at 3am. It was stressed to me, don't leave the people waiting outside. I guess when people want to work out, they want to do it, and get it done for they have jobs. I guess in the past, the guy wouldn't show, and the owner would have to come in and open. If you have a family, and you need your sleep, you don't want to get up at 5am. Especially if you have kids, and they have probably kept you up, or woke you up in the past. I think I was even told to set two alarms at one point. I am not one to sit around and do nothing, although I was told I sort of could. I would clean, I would check the spray bottles and paper towels when I could. I vacuumed when the floor needed it

orientation

I arrived to the gym in Malta, NY at the end of July. I was a shoe-in, due to the senior member of the family was the bass player friend of mine. According to my friend, his Son A.(as I'll call him for now) wanted to hire someone else, seeing as I had no resume, and my friend ,(owner/bass player) F.(we'll call him for now), sort of strong-armed him. "I want you to give this guy a shot" were his words on the phone to me after getting hired. I was given a quick tour, and a key, I was told to come in for a two-hour training session. I should have known that something was wrong from the start, when the person who said to show up, didn't show up. I met the manager at the time M.(we'll call him), and he said it was his fault, that I was an hour early...I was hooked, because I'm not used to management admitting fault, I liked the guy.

The Beginning....

Once upon a time there was a family, maybe a bit dysfunctional as families are concerned, yet they decided to go into business together. I guess you'd have to be dysfunctional, to know it's a bad idea and then to go ahead with it. They bought some equipment, and expanded, and then the shit hit the fan. Here's my accounting of it, from an insiders perspective. I'm also a budding comedy/movie writer, so I get to practice my writing. I joined a band in 2010, as I am a musician as well. The bass player also said he owned a gym, and I needed some money coming in, as I was having a crisis. I walked into another crisis. I noticed there was a ton of drama in a health club, I joked around with one of the trainers about it one day. and came up with the title "As The Treadmill Turns"
